Where to next? Hmmm… how about Yusuhara?
Why? Because Kengo Kuma, who designed, among other things, the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, also designed six buildings in this town with a population of only 3 000.
Worth a look.
The hotel where I stayed
The town offices
The Kengo Kumo Gallery
The town library
So…nice work, Kengo. Good job.
I did also make a quick pit stop at Nakatsu Gorge. Nothing spectacular, but like Shikoku in general, pleasant in an unassuming way.
Done and done.
Japanese Fun Facts
Let’s talk smoking. A surprising number of Japanese still smoke, but, of course, they do it Japanese-style. They congregate in custom “Smoking Area” enclosures, both indoors and outdoors. I have yet to see anyone smoking anywhere but inside one of these spaces - in absolute silence.
As always, problem solved.
